Thousands of chargers, one overview: managing a large-scale charging network without chasing information
An electricity provider operates a charging network of several thousand stations. Its information is spread across several tools: SAP, Jira, Excel, Power BI and other internal systems. The AXSO dashboard brings the essentials together in a single view and flags incidents on its own. Teams save time, make decisions faster and report more easily.
Project type : Management dashboard for an EV charging network
Sector : Electricity distribution and electric mobility
Scale : Several thousand charging stations across many sites
Existing tools : SAP, Excel, Power BI and other internal systems
Users : Network management, executive leadership, operations and maintenance, customer support
Most-viewed indicators : Revenue, power currently delivered, incidents and stations to monitor
Context
The client is an electricity provider that operates a large-scale charging network: several thousand stations spread across many sites.
Like most large organizations, it relies on several tools to manage its operations: SAP, Jira, Excel, Power BI and other internal systems. Each one meets a specific need. None of them, however, provides a complete overview of the charging network on its own.
Yet several teams need that overview: network managers, executive leadership, operations and maintenance teams, and customer support.
The real problem
When information is scattered across multiple places, it becomes difficult to know what is happening on the network as it happens.
For managers who are not directly involved in operations or maintenance, the challenge is concrete. When they log in, they need to grasp the state of the network at a glance: availability, at-risk stations, revenue, current power, number of sessions.
The challenge, then, is not having more data. It is bringing that data together in one place, in a form that supports decision-making.
The pressure
Network availability is a sensitive issue. The client must meet its members' expectations, and its ability to do so depends directly on how quickly it can access information.
The clearest example: a power outage in a region. The affected sites go offline, and some time may pass before the organization realizes it. Meanwhile, drivers cannot charge and revenue is not being generated.
On top of that comes accountability: network performance must be reported to senior management and the board of directors.
The solution
The AXSO dashboard brings information on the entire network together in a single view. Three indicators are checked first:
Revenue : the revenue generated by the network
Power : the power currently being delivered
Incidents : stations that need attention, whether for a repair or an investigation
Availability, at-risk stations and number of sessions complete the picture.
The dashboard does more than display data. It sends alerts and creates incidents on its own. During a regional outage, the team is notified sooner and can respond faster.
The tool is used across the organization. Executive leadership uses it to steer the network and report on performance. Operations and maintenance teams use it to spot stations that need intervention. Customer support turns to it when several drivers report a problem at the same location, to pinpoint where to investigate.
One important clarification: the dashboard shows what the charging station reports. It cannot see a blocked parking space or physical damage on site. It does, however, show where to look, which gives field teams clear direction.
Implementation
Implementation was quick. The tool is easy to understand and gives an immediate sense of the network's scope. No unexpected issues were reported along the way.
The results
Visibility : a global view of the network, in one place
Responsiveness : automatically generated alerts and incidents, faster response to outages
Decisions : faster, based on information that is immediately accessible
Efficiency : time saved for teams
Availability : a better ability to meet members' expectations
Accountability : easier reporting to senior management and the board of directors
Adoption : quick, with no surprises
What the client tells us: quick access to information allows them to make decisions quickly and keep their network efficiently managed.
“A large charging network that uses several tools, such as SAP, Jira, Excel or Power BI, can have difficulty centralizing information. The AXSO dashboard gives large-scale network operators a global view and helps them make the right decisions.”
